The University of Oxford will host the Oxford Quantum Centenary Conference: What Quantum? from 21–23 November 2025 at the T.S. Eliot Lecture Theatre, Merton College. The meeting marks 100 years of quantum theory and is part of the 2025 International Year of Quantum Science and Technology.
FQxI will be strongly represented. Many FQxI members are expected to attend, including Emily Adlam, Jim Al-Khalili, Natalia Ares, Markus Aspelmeyer, Jonathan Barrett, Dan Bedingham, Eric Cavalcanti, Elise Crull, Chris Fuchs, Lucien Hardy, Adrian Kent, Eleanor Knox, Matthew Leifer, Gerard Milburn, Wayne Myrvold, Roger Penrose, Simon Saunders, Tony Short, Antony Valentini, David Wallace and Nicole Yunger-Halpern.
The conference is funded by the John Templeton Foundation and hosted by the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Oxford. More details are available on the Oxford event page.
In-person attendance at the main conference is by invitation, but the organisers will stream the proceedings online, with a programme and streaming link to follow.

20 November 2025 – Opening concert: “Quantum Universe”
World premiere of Quantum Universe, a symphony for organ, “quantum guitar” and electronics, composed by Rakhat-Bi Abdyssagin and performed by Abdyssagin (organ) and Bob Coecke (quantum guitar). 1:15pm, Merton College Chapel, Oxford.
20 November 2025 – Public lecture: “Navigating the Quantum Wonderland”
Public talk by physicist and science communicator Paul Davies on the conceptual puzzles of quantum mechanics, quantum technologies and “Quantum 2.0.” 6:00–7:30pm, Martin Wood Lecture Theatre, Department of Physics, University of Oxford.
23 November 2025 – Closing concert: Quantum music at Holywell Music Room
(Quantum) Indeterminism and entanglement: (Musical) Correlation and spontaneity, a concert for piano and quantum guitar with Rakhat-Bi Abdyssagin (piano) and Bob Coecke (quantum guitar). 8:00pm, Holywell Music Room, Oxford. Admission is free but places are limited.
