The idea that the universe's form, which is balanced down to the smallest detail, is the basis of its existence and must therefore be more than a coincidence, is not new. The fact that it has become a scientific argument in astrophysics gives us cause to reflect on it from various specialist perspectives. George Ellis is a cosmologist and Professor emeritus of Applied Mathematics at the University of Cape Town in South Africa. With Stephen Hawking he co-authored the seminal book The Large Scale Structure of Space-Time . He is a Fellow of the Royal Society, London and the Royal Society of South Africa. In 2004, he won the Templeton Prize and in 1999, he was honored with the Order of the Star of South Africa by Nelson Mandela. He is currently a Visiting Fellow in the context of the CAS Research Focus “Cosmology”. The invitation was jointly organized with MCMP and the Cluster of Excellence “Origins”. The lecture series of the summer semester 2025 “The Fine Tuned Universe” is part of the CAS Research Focus "New Cosmology". 0:00 Welcome: Prof. Dr. Christof Rapp (CAS LMU) 2:26 Introducion: Dr. Laurie Letertre (LMU) 4:04 Prof. George Ellis, Ph.D. (CAS Fellow/Cape Town): A Fine Tuned Universe: Issues, Evidence, Implications 1:04:19 Discussion
