The talk explores two extant philosophical interpretations of a theory of consciousness under the free energy principle—these are qualia realist illusionist (or rather semi-illusionist) interpretations—and argues that none of them is completely convincing. Then the paper develops and defends a new philosophical interpretation of the free energy account of consciousness along the lines of strong intentionalism (as developed in works of Tim Crane), which is in line with structural realism.
