In a recent Substack post, FQxI's Jonathan Oppenheim, a quantum physicist at University College London, UK, discussed how far Large Language Models have progressed in terms of their ability to solve math problems.

His quick summary is:

"They’re pretty terrible at anything close to research level maths, but the speed at which they’re improving is astounding. But also, they’re being trained to be insufferable and a bit psychopathic."

Head over to Post Quantum to read more about how he reached this conclusion and where he sees the biggest dangers with LLMs based on their incompetence combined with their overconfidence.
